A serious fire shows why vents must be cleaned
Fire at Pilton Fryer
Our team plays a vital role in improving the fire safety of every kitchen ventilation system we clean.
A recent fire at the Pilton Fryer chip shop in Barnstaple, Devon, highlighted just how quickly a neglected ventilation system can become a serious hazard.
"Four fire engines and the aerial ladder were rushed to the shop in Pilton Street just before 4.30 pm, amid fears the roof fire would spread to other properties."
Thankfully, the fire was contained before it could cause further damage.
Cause of the fire:
The fire was caused by a build-up of grease in the kitchen ventilation and ductwork. Over time, grease accumulates naturally from cooking, and without regular cleaning, it can turn a busy kitchen into a significant fire risk.

Our team’s response:
Once the property was made safe, our team worked closely with the owner to arrange a full, deep clean of the ventilation and ductwork. The fryers had accumulated substantial grease and grime, which is a common issue in commercial kitchens. Our thorough cleaning process removes these hazards, ensuring the kitchen is safe, compliant, and ready for continued use.
